Documenting Artist Lily Johannah: Photos and a Video Interview from the Far South Coast

I arrived at Lily’s property on a cool morning just as the sun was rising. The kookaburras were calling, mist was rising among the tall gum trees. The sun was just rising through the bush and creating incredible beams of light that moved and flickered through the leaves.

Meet Lily Johannah, artist and mother. Lily lives with her two sons and partner on their seaside farm on the Far South Coast of NSW. Working from her studio nestled amongst the trees, Lily’s work explores structures in their most minimal form while incorporating a long-running love affair with colour and emotive palettes. Lily mostly works with gouache on watercolour paper.

Lily and I spent the morning chatting in her studio space. I interviewed her for a video I created below and captured a series of photos documenting her process.
