Intentional Growth: Navigating Business, Family, and Content Creation in the Digital Age

As we grapple with the constant demands of our attention, finding balance can feel like an elusive dream. As a small business and mother, I've learned that the path to success isn't always straight or simple, especially for those of us who are seeking a more intentional life.

The Reality of Juggling Multiple Roles

I've owned and operated my small business for two decades, and for the last ten years, I've also been a mother. Let me tell you, the workload I managed effortlessly in my 20s and 30s looks very different now. With a ten-year-old and a four-year-old, I understand the pull between family life, business growth, and acquiring new skills.

As our businesses evolve and our families grow, priorities inevitably shift. I've learned that managing my own expectations is crucial. It's about finding creative ways to achieve what I want with less – less time and less energy, but certainly not less enthusiasm and excitement..

Finding Your 'Why': The Fuel for Sustainable Growth

What keeps me going is my "why" – the driving force behind everything I do. For me, it's the promise of more freedom with my family. Yes my job is my love - I genuinely love what I do, but I’m discussing something above this . This motivation pushes me to carve out time for learning new skills, knowing that purposeful effort now will mean more freedom in the coming months. It's not about making giant leaps; it's about taking tiny steps each week.

Debunking the Myth of 'Having It All'"

I'll be honest – it fires me up when coaches claim we can do it all. Balancing family life, maintaining a consistent social media presence across multiple platforms, and running a business is no small feat. It's not about doing everything; it's about doing what matters most, only having a few areas of focus for that quarter or year and doing it well. For me it was accepting that my main focus for one quarter was going to be YouTube so that means my socials will be quiet, but once I’m on track with this learning curve and more fluid I can add back in my social media elements.

being Accountable

One immensely helpful strategy is being accountable for completing online learning tasks. Having a due date rather than an open-ended timeline motivates me actually to do the work. Showing up for group calls to share progress creates a sense of community and keeps me on track.

Maximising Your Content Creation Efforts

For those of us who want to enhance our online presence with professional personal branding photos, engaging video content, and authentic visuals to showcase our products and services online, remember this: it's a slow process and let go of perfectionism (that’s my biggest hindering factor).

Your desire to build connections with your audience and show up as you is important. It's also achievable, but it requires patience, intentionality, and a willingness to play the long game.

Repurposing: Making Your Video Content Work Harder

As business owners, we must balance so much, so it’s crucial to use our time wisely. While there are many ways to repurpose video content, remember that you don't need to do it all. The key is to choose methods that firstly make you feel excited and secondly are probably where your audience hangs out. Here's a list of ideas—currently, I’m aiming for 1-3 (not all of them) to get the best use out of your effort.

1. YouTube Video:

  • Create a 5-10 minute video on a topic valuable to your audience

2. Website Blog Post:

  • Embed the video in a blog post on your website

  • Add a written summary of key points for SEO benefits

3. Long-form Social Media Post:

  • Extract key insights for a thoughtful Instagram post

  • Include a link to the full video for those wanting more

4. Email Newsletter Feature:

  • Share the video link with your email subscribers

  • Include one key takeaway to provide immediate value

5. Podcast Episode:

  • Use the audio as the basis for a podcast episode

  • Add a brief intro for context

7. Workshop Material:

  • Use the video content as a foundation for a more in-depth session

  • Expand on points and include interactive elements

playing the Long Game Approach - slow and steady

Remember, your aim is to create content with longevity and don’t feel pressured to post constantly on social media. Instead, focus on producing quality content that provides lasting value to your audience. You can maximise its impact by choosing a few key ways to repurpose your video without overwhelming yourself or diluting your message.

Prioritise platforms where your content has a longer lifespan, such as your website, YouTube, or Substack. These spaces allow your work to continue reaching and helping people long after its initial release, giving you more return on your time investment.

As you navigate this path, remember to be kind to yourself. Celebrate small victories, and always keep your "why" at the forefront. With each video you create and share, you're building a business and life that aligns with your values.
