The Power of Visual Storytelling: Boosting Your Business Visibility and Sales

As someone who values authenticity, I've always been cautious about putting myself out there. But over time, I've discovered something powerful: when I actively share my visual story on social media and with my email list, I see a direct increase in customer bookings.

I know that each time I post a behind-the-scenes look at my business, my creative process, or my opinion on something, my engagement spikes. I get nervous sharing these insights sometimes, but the response is positive, and that’s because most people value a deeper human connection.

The Human Connection in Business

People buy from people. It's that simple. The more you share videos and photos about your processes, experiences, backstory, and everyday life, the more your customers feel connected to you. There are probably a stack of other people offering services or products like you, but what makes you ‘you’ is the unique part.

They may not need what you’re offering now, but that connection is what makes them think of you first when they need your product or service. When you share helpful videos related to your field, you're not just providing value - you're positioning yourself as an expert.

Your brandstory is what sells

There's a common misconception that "if your product or service is good enough, it should sell itself." This couldn't be further from the truth. We still need to show up. But if we can tell more stories and create video content that inspires us, then we don’t have to hard-sell, we sell through our story.

And remember this doesn't mean you need to become an extrovert dancing around pointing in random directions,

There's space on the internet for you to show up as your authentic self - even if that means being quiet or a bit nervous. Your audience will appreciate your genuineness. Often the other elements of your life outside of your business will resonate with your audience. In saying this you choose your boundaries and your sensitive nature - you don’t have to share your deepest secrets to resonate with people.

Simplify the Learning Process

Creating videos for better visibility doesn't have to be overwhelming. By following some simple steps and structure around how and where to create videos, you can take the guesswork out of the process. I found it more helpful to choose a specific person to learn from that resonates with you rather than endlessly Googling and giving up in frustration because everyone has a different method.

The goal is to choose a way of learning that is straight to the point, no fluff and extras and make sure there is a clear outcome/result at the end of the course.

This past year I have been a part of a group program where I had weekly check-ins and homework to hand in and it’s the first time I have ever completed so much work. For me, self-paced online courses don't work. But we’re all motivated in a different way - so think about what makes you take action when you sign up for your next online course.

That's why I’m developing a simple structure and steps for creating videos that boost visibility. It takes the guesswork out of having to Google every aspect of your learning.

Sharing Quality Visuals Sells

One of my students from my online phone photographer course recently told me, "Having excellent photographs is essential for our business. As small business owners, we can't always pay a photographer, but with your excellent course, I've been able to take photos that are professional and beautiful and have led to many new orders from my ideal customers and stockists." (Lea)

The Barriers to DIY Video

I understand the struggles of not wanting to appear on video or online, plus the technical aspects of videography and editing. There seem to be so many barriers, and everybody else is making it all look so easy. The truth is, it isn’t easy. But it is achievable if you stick to the basics with as little gear as possible, take small steps, and choose someone to learn from who speaks your language.

Your Story Matters

Remember, your story matters, your process matters, and most importantly, your authentic self matters. By sharing these elements visually, you're not just increasing your visibility—you're inviting your ideal clients into your world, allowing them to connect with you on a deeper level. And that, in my experience, is what truly drives traffic to your website, attracts ideal clients, and ultimately increases sales.
