women in business: Interview & brand photoshoot with Cheryl from Narooma law
I first met Cheryl and her team three years ago for our first brand photoshoot together, and I felt an instant connection with their all-female law team based in Narooma. Cheryl is down-to-earth and warm; she makes you feel instantly at ease.
Narooma Law offers legal services and advice across a wide range of matter types including Wills, Estate Planning, Conveyancing, Property, Business, Family and Criminal Law. We have a strong local area client base, and we offer remote services to clients further afield and interstate.
Recently, I was invited back to photograph and video the staff at their new office space in Narooma. The office was filled with plants and lots of great light - a photographer's dream!

Meeting other women in business who are thriving inspires me, so I asked Cheryl for some business advice:
If you could go back and give yourself one piece of advice when you were just starting out, what would it be?
Don’t be afraid to reach out to other business operators or trusted people with business experience for guidance and encouragement. It doesn’t have to be from someone in the same industry, but often times business operators are willing to share their own journey, and give encouragement and guidance to someone else who is just starting out, and who shows a genuine interest in wanting to be better and to learn more. You realise that you are not alone, and that there is a wealth of knowledge and support within reach.
What are the top 1-3 most effective marketing tools you use in your business and why and how? (eg. socials, email marketing, paid ads, word-of-mouth).
We find that due to our strong emphasis on a client centred approach that word of mouth has been our most effective tool to date. It is really satisfying when a new client confirms that they were referred by someone who was really pleased with the services that we provided.
Our 5 star google review rating is an effective marketing tool as it is real experiences written by clients across different matter types. It allows potential clients to see comments from others who may be in a similar situation to them and feel confidence in our team.
We hope to further expand on our reach through our upcoming new website and the use of our social media.
How do you think your industry will change in the next few years, and how are you preparing for it?
AI is rapidly finding its way into the legal industry, while we are a progressive firm and embrace technology, we think it’s an important part of our business model to keep the bespoke level of high-end client service that we currently provide. In a time where everything is becoming online with no face-to-face interaction, we plan to stay passionate about connecting with our clients understanding their own unique circumstances.
